Greenfield's Winter Carnival, 1923 - film screening

The LAVA Center is delighted to announce it will share a piece of Winter Carnival History as part of the Greenfield Winter Carnival. In March of 2024, local history fans and researchers Chris Clawson and Carol Aleman discovered a Pathé News newsreel from just over a hundred years ago. As Clawson recounts it, the forgotten reel from 1923, along with another from a year later, sat on a Historical Society of Greenfield shelf when they suddenly caught his attention. He and Aleman set about researching and restoring the films. On Saturday, Feb. 7, 2–4 pm, this restored 9-minute film, “Greenfield's Winter Carnival, 1923,” will loop continuously for a drop-in intro to the history of our local festivities. Carnival-goers can take a break from enjoying the ice sculptures along Main Street and step inside to warm up, enjoy Clawson’s film, a cup of hot cider, and LAVA’s first art exhibit of 2026.
